Behind any successful organization is a successful leader. Leadership is a characteristic of a person that is not innate. As long as you have the eagerness to learn you can be a leader. Here are some of the leadership topics that you can use to boost your leadership skills.
1. Communication – this is perhaps the most important leadership topics where everyone falls short. Imagine a president of the company who is very smart and able but don’t know how to communicate well, it will be a disaster. Communication is not all about informing your subordinates on the upcoming Christmas party, although it’s a good booster for the employees. It is more about how your company has done well from the past months and giving praises or recognition to all your employees for devoting their time and effort to making it happen.
2. Lead by Example – “A leader leads by example, whether he intends to or not” ~ Unknown. It is very indispensable for a leader to do as he preaches. To be more reliable, you have to be consistent. If you are an employee at McDonald’s and you see your manager not following the correct procedure in cooking the burger patties, would you do the same? Of course you will follow what your leader does. These leadership topics will target the technical aspect of your leadership skills.
3. Take Action – Don’t just sit and talk in the office, move and take action. Create a live environment where everybody is involved. You can start an activity that will raise your employees’ awareness of the new products or promotions. Be creative, simple and current on every activity that you have in place. Pick some ideas from your co-managers or search it through the internet. Sometimes two heads are better than one. Give incentives and recognition to all your employees who will excel. Make sure to deliver as you promised, because they take it seriously and value what you say.
4. Motivation – Learn how to motivate you people. These leadership topics target your employees’ loyalty. Everybody likes to feel they are important in the company even how small their roles are. A little tap on their shoulders while saying “Good work!” will uplift their confidence and rest assured the loyalty of that person to you and to the company will be forever. Provided you have the credibility to do so.
These leadership topics would only work if you have built the credibility beforehand. Credibility is something that you have to gain from your employees. You can gain this by strictly following the standards and being trustworthy to all of your actions. Do not abuse your authority. There is a saying “With great power comes great responsibilty”.
